International jazz day nicolini and jazz club collaborate

International Jazz Day, 2024 editionThe jazz department of the “G. Nicolini” Conservatory proposes three celebratory and informative events on 28, 29 and 30 April in collaboration with the Piacenza Jazz Club.

International jazz day, program presented

The program was presented at the Conservatory during the press conference attended by the director of the jazz department Nicolini Maximilian Rolffthe president of the Conservatory Massimo Trespidi and the vice-president and artistic director of the Piacenza Jazz Club Angelo Bardini.

“I am very happy to have contributed together with my colleagues from the jazz department to bring jazz music, and such a large group of students, right among the people, the people of Piacenza, in their streets and in their magnificent small theaters, in full harmony with the underlying idea of ​​International Jazz Day” commented Rolff while president Trespidi recalled how: “The conservatory, especially on the third day, goes directly into the heart of the city to visually give its presence among the people as music expresses itself where men know how to meet and talk to each other”.

Angelo Bardini for the Piacenza Jazz Club finally underlined the crucial importance of these initiatives which involve young people both as musicians and as an audience with the aim of spreading jazz and its practices and recalls that they are part of a larger network that counts more than seventy events nationwide in the month of April.

International jazz day, the evenings

Sunday 28 April at 5 pm the concert will be staged in the Sala dei Teatini “Happy Birthday Duke! – The Sacred Concerts” with music by Duke Ellington performed by the Big Band of the G. Nicolini Conservatory of Piacenza conducted by maestro Antonio Ciacca, and by the Placentia Gospel Choir directed by maestro Francesco Zarbano. The event is part of the Allegro con Brio music festival.

Monday 29 Aprilstarting from 10 am, theOpen day of the Nicolini jazz departmentin collaboration with the Piacenza Jazz Clubwith a lesson-concert aimed at middle and high school students, organized by the students of the Jazz department. The concert, lasting approximately one hour, includes a repertoire that can outline the historical evolution of jazz music through the 20th century; from its origins in New Orleans to the present day throughout the world. Each piece will be introduced by brief historical and stylistic references. The event will be briefly introduced by maestro Massimiliano Rolff, jazz double bass player and head of the Nicolini jazz department. In the afternoon, from 3pm to 6pm, you will be able to meet the teachers of the Jazz department (Massimiliano Rolff, Andrea Rea and Antonio Ciacca) in the Conservatory classrooms, attend the lessons, and receive information about the study programmes.

Tuesday 30 Aprilfrom 4.30pm to 8.30pm, the event will be held “Off-campus jazz“; always with the collaboration of Piacenza Jazz Club, four jazz groups of students from the Jazz department (24 musicians) will perform in as many squares in the heart of the historic center of Piacenza. The repertoires will show four different styles of jazz music and the concerts will be accessible for free.
