The mathematics teacher had offered to tutor her, but his attentions towards the 16-year-old turned out to be inappropriate
A former student of the Linguistic High School of Busto Arsizio she finally got justice after reporting that she had been subjected to sexual harassment by her math’s teacher during private lessons, when he was only 16 years old. The complaint was filed six years after the events, leading to an abbreviated sentence of one year and four months in prison for the professor, who was 55 years old at the time and is now out of the profession. The sentence, issued in the autumn of a couple of years ago by the preliminary hearing judge Court of Busto Arsizio Luisa Bovitutti, was confirmed on appeal, together with the granting of the conditional suspension of the sentence and a provisional amount of 10 thousand euros for the offended party.
In addition to the conviction, the teacher was subject to a series of disqualifications, including the suspension of the teaching profession from any school of all levels. Despite the attempts of the teacher’s defense to discredit the accuser, the victim’s testimony led to the confirmation of the conviction. The young woman described her state of deep depression after the episodes of harassment, which occurred in October 2014 and in the summer-autumn 2015, at her home in Busto Arsizio.
The teacher’s defense tried to dismantle the accusations, arguing that his accuser was not credible and that she had even continued to maintain a relationship of “friendship” with the teacher even after the events reported, citing exchanges of affectionate messages between the two.
