More lives broken on the asphalt. More fatal road accidents. Tragic crash on the Taranto-Bari state road 100, near the junction for San Basilio (already the scene of similar episodes in the past), not far from the Sala Azzurra restaurant. It is yet another accident with victims in recent months in the Mottola area, in the Tarantino area.
Accident between car and truck: mother and son killed
Today there was a collision between a car and a lorry, a woman and her 12 year old son died practically instantly while the father, who was driving the car, was transported under code red to the Santissima Annunziata hospital: it’s serious . The driver of the truck was also injured and hospitalized in Castellaneta hospital. 118, the Massafra carabinieri and the firefighters are present on site.
The clash was head-on and very violent
Based on an initial reconstruction, which will need to be confirmed, it seems that the truck, which was traveling in the direction of Taranto, collided head-on with a Ford SUV which was proceeding in the opposite direction and on board which the family, who are originally from Palagiano, was travelling. The crash was extremely violent and a very complicated intervention by the firefighters was necessary to extract the two victims from the crumpled sheets of metal. The road was temporarily closed to traffic.
The “state of death”
Between November and last March, there were seven victims. Last March 17, a few kilometers away from today’s accident, a 32-year-old boy and two girls aged 26 and 23 died. There were also three injured: a 50-year-old, his wife and their son. Finally, last November, three soldiers on duty in Altamura and a 60-year-old died in the same stretch.
The serious accidents have drawn attention to the safety conditions of that stretch of road, which was also the subject of sessions of a regional commission: there are plans to increase road safety, as he says BariToday: reduction from four to three lanes, speed cameras. And some interventions have been carried out. In any case, there is no more time to waste.
