FORLI’. She passes herself off as her daughter through a WhatsApp message and takes away a thousand euros. On 5 April, the Carabinieri of the Ronco station, following investigations lasting several months, reported a 23-year-old foreign citizen resident in the Neapolitan area for fraud against an elderly person. The victim is a woman who lives in Forlì. In January the woman was contacted via WhatsApp by an unknown person who, posing as her daughter, informed her that she had lost her documents and her ATM card. Convinced by the unknown interlocutor, the victim made a top-up for an amount of approximately one thousand euros, crediting it to a payment card, as per instructions received from who she believed to be her daughter.

After a few days, the woman received a visit from her daughter who, with dismay, listened to the elderly mother’s story, denying that she herself had asked her for money.

The women, having clarified the contours of the affair, went to the Ronco carabinieri to formalize a written complaint. The investigations, conducted for a few months by the military, made it possible to trace the identification of a 23-year-old foreign citizen, a result not new to the commission of similar crimes.

The Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Corso Mazzini invites victims to formalize a complaint for similar scams and to be wary of individuals who request payments of money in the name of children and relatives, unless after having verified personally through their loved ones or perhaps through the users of emergency “112” the veracity of the requests.
