GreenGo enthusiastically announces that it has obtained the first Single Authorization for the construction of a electrochemical energy storage system (BESS) in Scandale, Calabria; this is one of the first AUs in a strategic region for balancing the electricity market in the field of energy storage.

The “Cuvelli” plant in Scandale, which will have a capacity of 49.5 MW, will be fundamental for the Italian electricity grid, helping to maintain the balance between energy production and consumption. Strategically located close to Terna’s new 380/150 kV RTN station, the plant will play a crucial role in the integration of renewable energy and in stabilizing the grid, through frequency regulation and the provision of capacity reserve.

The authorization for the new BESS plant in Scandale released 17 months after the application (November 2022) marks an important step by GreenGo within the MACSE (Forward storage market) whose auction, given Terna’s recent declarations, is expected for the end of March 2025, an initiative promoted to encourage the installation and management of storage systems in Italy. This market will be central to the country’s energy transition, allowing more efficient management of energy from renewable sources and ensuring an effective response to fluctuations in non-programmable energy production.

Fabio AmicoBusiness Development Director of GreenGo, commented: “The Single Authorization for the Scandale BESS plant is a significant milestone for GreenGo. This project not only strengthens our position in the Italian energy market with a 400 MW pipeline, but actively contributes to the diversion of our technology portfolio. This is just the beginning, as we foresee further internal developments and potentially acquisitions of initiatives in the field of innovative technologies that have concrete possibilities of realization within 12/24 months so as to strengthen our IPP strategy

This project reflects GreenGo’s commitment to innovation for environmental sustainability. The adoption of advanced technologies for energy storage will help to considerably reduce carbon emissions, supporting Italy in achieving the objectives of the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC), which includes the installation of significant energy storage capacities to facilitate the integration of renewable sources.

To date, GreenGo’s pipeline has reached 80 renewable projects on 9 regions For 1.71 GWwith a total of 944 MW in approval and beyond 210MW already approved/RTB.
