Ferguson out, Motta evaluates the alternatives

There Gazzetta dello Sport – as well as all the other newspapers – this morning reports the news of the rupture of the cruciate Lewis Fergusonwith the possible scenarios attached at least for this season finale of Bologna.

The verdict

Yesterday afternoon the official announcement arrived through a club statement with which the diagnosis of the Scot’s knee was confirmed. The first of the two things highlighted (the most serious) is the injury to the anterior cruciate of the right knee, which will have to be reconstructed through surgery; the second is that there would have been a solicitation of the collateral. Ferguson remained on the pitch for those additional 5 minutes, after the discomfort he noticed, which didn’t do any good. No European Championship for him: it would have been his first with the Scotland national team; and obviously season over. The Bologna he won’t be able to get him back for at least the next six months and will have to reach Europe in this championship finale without his captain.

The possible scenarios

Thiago Motta therefore he will have to work to find the best alternatives in order to succumb to the lack of Lewis Ferguson. The most plausible, as well as the first that comes to everyone’s mind, is that of Giovanni Fabbian, designated number one to replace number nineteen. There is no shortage of alternatives, however: a 4-1-4-1 is also possible, with Aebischer, Urbanski and Moro possibly ready to have their say.

The message from the comrades

Bologna, and with him too Motta, his captain cries but it is in these moments that a team can emerge even more: the message from the whole team did not take long to arrive. After the first messages of support arrived from fans on Sunday, such as Beukema and Ndoye, yesterday those from Ravaglia (“Go Scottish guy”), Orsolini (“We will fight for you too”), Castro (” Come on, captain”), De Silvestri (“We love you”) and Freuler (“Come on”). The former Dominguez, now at Nottingham, also joined the chorus.
