In Molfetta an exhibition on testimonies and instruments of torture in the world – MolfettaLive.it

The Italia 236 Amnesty International group of Molfetta, with the moral patronage of the Municipality of Molfetta, is setting up the exhibition “Testimonies and instruments of torture in the world”.

The exhibition will feature the display of illustrations with testimonies from different countries around the world and reproductions of torture instruments used for this cruel practice.

Torture is among the most repugnant and barbaric crimes that a human being can inflict on another and, despite this, it is a common practice in many countries.

A recent study, in 21 countries on every continent, revealed that at least half of the world fears being tortured if arrested.

More than 155 countries have signed the United Nations Convention against Torture, which Amnesty International helped write more than 30 years ago. However, several governments betray their citizens by continuing to allow, and often support, torture in secret.

Torture takes place in the shadows and is carried out without fear of arrest, persecution, or punishment.

Amnesty International opposes torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment of anyone, in any situation, for example when used to extract information, confessions or as a means of punishment or intimidation, including when committed by a public official or anyone acting in an official capacity.

From 7 to 21 April, therefore, it will be possible to visit the exhibition at the Church of Death from 10.00 to 13.00 and from 18.00 to 21.00 every day except Monday.

During the inauguration evening on 7 April at 7.30 pm in the same place, activists from Amnesty International, local institutions and Mohamed Dihani, activist for the human rights of the Saharawi people and victim of persecution and torture, will speak.
