Foggia Celebrates World Autism Awareness Day: An Initiative for Inclusion and Awareness

April 6 is a date of great importance in Foggia, as the city prepares to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day. In an atmosphere of solidarity and commitment, all associations, schools and bodies involved in assisting people with autism will come together to promote knowledge and raise public awareness of the rights of people on the autism spectrum.

The events organized are the result of collaboration between various entities in the Foggia area, including the associations “iFun”, “AIPD Foggia”, “Controvento”, the ETS Foundation “Marco Mastrangelo”, the ASD ASSORI ETS and the social cooperatives ” Ghenos” and “Il Posto Felice”. These organizations have joined forces to spread awareness and contribute to the creation of a more inclusive and collaborative Foggia.

The main objective of the initiative is to promote massive awareness-raisingspread a culture of non-exclusion and offer training, help and support to institutions, families and the community as a whole.

The main event will be held on Saturday 6 April 2024 at the pedestrian area of ​​the City of Foggia, in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II (Piazza Giordano side), from 9.30 to 12.30. During the event, a series of engaging activities are planned, including performances, plays, monologues, dances, songs and moments of celebration and insights. It will be a morning full of emotions, culminating in a final popular dance organized by the Rione Popolare association and the distribution of gadgets and balloons.

Other associations active in the area and various institutional bodies will also participate in the event, such as the Municipality and Province of Foggia, the ASL/FG and various schools and educational institutes. These partners have worked together for years to promote inclusion and support people with autism and their families.

The event program features a variety of performances and activities, including:

The musical performance “Dream boy Dream” by the children of the ASSORI Training Sector;
The monologue of Maria Pia Mastracchio “Street Artist”;
The “Oasi” Elementary School with the inclusive orchestra “Beat Sound Academy” directed by Maestro Giuseppe Padalino, will perform songs taken from Mozart’s “Magic Flute” in choir;
Artistic activities of the “Magic Circle” conceived by Pia Colabella and illustrated by Francesca Virgilio;
Inclusive tango performance “T21” (artists with trisomy 21);
Reading of passages and reflections on autism by the students of the “Carolina Poerio” Secondary School Institute of Foggia;
Dancing performances by the inclusive group “Rione Popolare”.
The event will be presented by Maria Elena Mastrangelo together with two special collaborators.

The initiative was promoted with the aim of promoting integration and mutual understanding within the Foggia community, helping people with autism, their family members and sector operators to recognize the challenges and resources of each individual .

The participation of all citizens, and in particular students, is essential to successfully address the issue of autism and promote a more inclusive and welcoming society for all.
