Once the vehicle to be stolen was identified, the lock was forced and taken to the railway station, from where the suspect often took the train to Mestre to sell it to some thug in order to collect money to then contact drug dealers”. “In a couple of cases – adds Gallo – the owners of the stolen bikes filed a complaint after reading a sign left at the scene by the officers because evidence of a theft had emerged from the video surveillance. The sign left by the Command officers carried this message: “If you can’t find your bicycle here, contact the Local Police Command because it has most likely been the subject of theft”, a simple but effective method for prosecuting those responsible for bicycle thefts”.
