An inconsequential defeat in the face of a record already acquired and in a race useful for, above all, giving the fulcrum elements of one’s team a breather starting five. Molisana Magnolia Campobasso concludes its journey in the first phase poule A with a one-length stoppage against Sesto San Giovanni, an aspect which however does not affect the passage to the semi-final of the #fiorellinidaiuto who, with certainty, will continue their adventure in Battipaglia until Friday, day of the finals and finals for the Scudetto.
TWO-FACED JANUS The Magnolias’ start is aggressive and leads them to build a 10-0 run in five minutes which could be the incipit of yet another triumphal ride, also because, despite a triple scored, the Lombards crash into the defense of the rossoblù which allows them only six points in the entire first quarter with a lead of ten points to manage.
In the second period, the Magnolias took a five-possession lead (6-21) after Trozzola’s triple, but here it ended up being a completely different type of contest. The Campobasso team maintain a double-digit lead at half-time with attacks and defenses equal.
Upon returning from the changing rooms the rossoblù are unable to close the contest, but rather suffer the return of the Geassine who come within a single possession gap (29-32). The rossoblù, however, started a 6-0 run with which they managed to count on three full possessions of the lead in the 30th minute (29-38).
This scenario – given the presence on the parquet of almost all the rotations on both sides and the +10 (29-39) signed by Alessandra Rizzo on the free line – would seem to close any discussion. However, this is not the case because, first with a 5-0, silenced by a triple from Moffa, and then with a 6-0 (stopped by a basket from Mascia) Sesto San Giovanni gets back behind and with a further 5-0 also operates the overtaking (45-44) making the final the most classic of the point-to-point drips, which gives the scoresheet to the Lombards (48-47).
EX POST SUMMARY At the end of the match, coach Gabriele Diotallevi’s comment was very clear: «It was an opportunity to bring out the qualities of those who often have less playing time and the attitude of many – he says – was not the most effective. If they don’t take advantage of these opportunities, it becomes difficult to gain presence on the parquet. I saw a proactive attitude from Moffa who, despite her hand problems, still made herself heard in attack, as well as from Rizzo and Lallo. Our minds now necessarily turn to the semi-finals, trying to put this day aside and start again as this group has been able to demonstrate on more than one occasion.”
ALSO VENICE OUT Basket Roma also advances from the iron group (A) to the semi-final, winning 51-46 over Reyer Venezia, thus saying goodbye to the competition with the Capitolines who, in the semi-final, will meet Costa Masnaga.
BATTIPAGLIA AGAINST For the rossoblù, now, the prospect tomorrow evening – at 7pm – will be to face the hosts Battipaglia in the second semi-final of the program (the first will be at 5pm). On their side, the bells finished group B in second place, prevailing 62-49 over the Sisters Samoggia.
