Kempower strengthens its presence in Italy by providing the public transport operator Tper (Trasporto Passeggeri Emilia-Romagna) with its direct current charging solutions for one of the largest bus depots in Europe, with its 500 vehicles.

The depot, inaugurated last March, is the first in Italy equipped with Kempow charging solutions. The project represents a fundamental milestone for the city of Bologna, included among the 100 cities participating in the Horizon Europe mission, whose objective is to achieve climate neutrality by 2030, i.e. 20 years earlier than the deadline set by the EU on environment, energy and climate.

75% of European citizens live in cities and, globally, more than 65% of the world’s energy is consumed in cities and more than 70% of total CO2 emissions are produced. The transition towards a more sustainable public transport system plays a fundamental role not only in reducing emissions, but also in offering citizens cleaner air, safer transport, less traffic and noise pollution.

In Italy, Bologna is a leader in the transition towards zero-emission public transport and the opening of this new electric bus charging facility is essential for the city to achieve its sustainability goals. At this site Tper will simultaneously charge 20 electric buses (12 and 18 meters in length) with five single-output Kempower satellites, offering up to 130 kW of charging capacity, and 20 Kempower pantographs, offering up to 300 kW.

“All our vehicles, including electric buses, must operate efficiently on the assigned lines – explains Fabio Monzali, infrastructure technical director of Tper –. Kempower’s modular power unit with dynamic power management allows us to guarantee recharging even in the event of a breakdown. This is extremely important for us.”
