Emma is furious (and she’s right) for a video of hers manipulated in an anti-political way. This is why it is necessary to block the wave of hatred and fake news

It is obvious and well known that women and men of entertainment are in the spotlight. Popularity and fame often bring with them hatred, resentment, envy and fake news artfully designed to destroy the credibility and honesty of the artist. There have been many “cases” in recent times, especially with the explosion of the power of social media. A sentence, a video, a gesture extrapolated from a context, often become charges in the social media court.

The latest “victim” of this system was Emma. In recent days a clip has been circulating on the Web in which the singer allegedly told and invited fans not to go and vote. The words extrapolated from a much more complex speech were: “I didn’t go to vote because it doesn’t change shit.”. Nothing could be further from the truth. Emma absolutely did not say this sentence and it was not an anti-political statement. After all, it was enough just to “comb through” the artist’s X profile to understand that it was all totally unfounded. In fact, during the days of the European Elections Emma wrote: “I jumped on a train like crazy, I’m going to vote”. This alone could have been enough to put all the speculation to rest. Yet it wasn’t enough and we don’t look for sources, denials or confirmations a very dangerous drift.

It’s Emma herself, exhausted from a promotional tour because the singer has two singles this summer “Femme Fatale” and “I want you” with Jvli and Olly, to deny everything and explain the facts. “After 70 thousand hours in the van I have to start doing these things – said Emma in a video on Instagram – but I do it for you. When you cut videos and throw them on the Internet trying to smear people, in this case me, by being big, you have to do it well. That is, you must first make sure that the original videos do not exist or perhaps you even have the ability to remove them from the Web.”

A fair and sacrosanct speech. Now with artificial intelligence it is possible to recreate, reconstruct faces and words of artists modified in a technological way. Songs they have never sung – and several audios are already circulating on the Web -, interviews they have never given and statements they have never made public. If we add to all this the spread of fake news with artfully manipulated videos, an explosive situation is created.

In short, we are in a truly delicate moment both for the advancement of technology and for the management of the “truth” of the facts. An arduous task, the result of effort and daily work not only on the part of journalists and professionals. The search for truth and attention and care in spreading news should be inherent in all of us, a democratic and civilized act.
