The highly anticipated one finally debuts second season of “House of the Dragon”, the American TV series based on one of George RR Martin’s famous novels, as a prequel to the equally famous “Game of Thrones” – which kept millions of viewers glued for dozens of exciting episodes. This time too, the serial has some of the most suggestive places in the world as a backdrop for its filming United Kingdom, Spain and Portugal. “House of the Dragon 2”, all the details

Waited for two years now, “House of the Dragon 2” returns to our screens on Monday 17 June 2024, for the first time on Sky Atlantic – although the more curious will certainly have previewed the episode in English broadcast the evening before on HBO, the American broadcaster that produced the highly successful TV series . There second season is based, as we have already seen in past episodes, on the novel “Fire and Blood” by George RR Martin, author of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” saga which gave rise to the TV series “Game of Thrones” (“The Game of Thrones” in the Italian adaptation).

“House of the Dragon 2” is the prequel, whose plot is set 190 years before the events later narrated in “Game of Thrones”: spectators were thus able to satisfy most of their curiosities, discovering for example how the decline of House Targaryen began and many other details that they explain what then happened in the TV series that has already aired. This second season also boasts an exceptional cast, but what most attracts the public’s attention (in addition to the compelling vicissitudes of the protagonists) is the spectacular setting in which the action takes place.

The locations of “House of the Dragon 2”

Not just Winterfell, the famous fortress of the Stark family: there are many iconic places in the TV series. There are different locations chosen for the filming of “House of the Dragon 2”, which largely follow those of the first season – with an important new entry and an unexpected “abandonment”, that of the precious fortified city of Ait-Ben-Haddou in Morocco. Many of the scenes were once again filmed in Cornwall, and particularly atisland of St. Michael’s Mount (where the castle that is the backdrop to the events of House Velaryon is located) and the splendid beaches of Holywell Beach and Kynance Cove.

The main location of this second season, however, is the new entry, the Wales: the director chose the Snowdonia national park, full of suggestive panoramas. In particular, some places of great beauty stand out, especially in the counties of Gwynedd (such as Trefor Quarry and the Ogwen Valley) and Anglesey (such as Beaumaris and Llanddwyn Beach). Remaining in Great Britain, some footage was filmed in Peak District, along the Pennines mountain range, in the Derbyshire region. We then have to fly a little further to discover the other places that were the backdrop to “House of the Dragon 2”.

The set has moved, once again, to Spain: in particular it is the city ​​of Caceres to have welcomed the filming, those concerning King’s Landing. While the cities of Trujillo and Lloret de Mar, already seen in the first season, return to surprise us again. The setting of the Santa Clotilde botanical gardens is also very fascinating, where the royal gardens of the Red Fortress were set. Finally, in Portugal the medieval castle of Monsanto, which offers a panorama that is nothing short of breathtaking. As for the interior shots, the location is that of Warner Bros Leavesden Studios.
