The filming of Sandokan, the event series inspired by the novels of Emilio Salgari produced by Lux Vide, a Fremantle group company, in collaboration with Rai Fiction, began last April 22nd, but we already have the first images that anticipate what we will see. It is undoubtedly him who strikes, Can Yaman, ready to take up the legacy of Kabir Bedi giving life to a Malaysian Tiger roaring in every way, with long hair, a tough look and a hunger for adventure. According to initial information Sandokan will begin in mid-nineteenth century Borneo, inhabited by the native Dayak tribes but dominated by the ruthless law of the English, at the height of their colonial power.

Sandokan lives day by day, without taking sides: fights for himself and his pirate crew, including the trusty Yanez, although his life will change forever when, during a raid, he meets Mariannathe beautiful daughter of the British consul of Labuan. It’s the beginning of an impossible love story between two unexpectedly similar souls: Marianna, of noble blood but with the wild spirit of someone who grew up in a tropical paradise, and Sandokan, a pirate leader and adventurer who carries within him the blood of warrior kings. However, the legendary pirate hunter will be on their trail Lord James Brooke, who will stop at nothing to capture Sandokan and win Marianna’s heart.
The series, developed for television by Alessandro Sermoneta, Scott Rosenbaum and Davide Lantieri and directed by Jan Maria Michelini and Nicola Abbatangelo, will be broadcast soon on Rai1 and will be distributed worldwide by Fremantle International and in Spain by Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group, focusing on an international cast which, in addition to the handsome Can Yaman, also fresh from the great success of the second season of Purple like the seaalso involves the debutant Alanah Bloor in the role of Marianna; Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl, Children of Men) into that of the charming antagonist Lord Brooke, and Alessandro Preziosi as the iconic Yanez de Gomera. The filming of Sandokan began in Formello in the new Theater 7, within the Lux Vide production hub, and will be held between Lazio, Tuscany, the island of Reunion and the suggestive Calabria, where the English colony of Labuan was built in Lamezia Terme, with the support of the Film Commission and the Calabria Region.
