During Warner Bros. Discovery’s financial conference, CEO David Zaslav also announced a new movie de The Lord of the Rings titled The Hunt for Gollumwhich will be produced in collaboration with Peter Jacksonauthor of the famous previous trilogy, with a release date not too far away.
At the helm of the project are Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, i.e. the triptych that was also responsible for the trilogy that won several Oscar awards, to the delight of fans, in this case in the role of producers, while the director will be the same Andy Serkis.
Therefore the very actor who plays Sméagol/Gollum will also be the director of the new film, with the support of Peter Jackson and the others, within a project that seems very interesting indeed, destined to arrive in cinemas in 2026reportedly.

Zaslav reported that the new film will “explore stories that still need to be told” in the Lord of the Rings universe, with Jackson, Boyens and Walsh deeply involved in the film’s development, “every step of the way and in every way,” it seems.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be able to return to Middle-earth with our great friend and colleague, Andy Serkis, who has something unfinished business with Gollum,” the producers said.
For his part, Andy Serkis obviously said he was very happy and proud for the role entrusted to him: “My treasure”, commented the actor/director: “The time has come to venture once again into the unknown with my loved ones friends, the extraordinary and incomparable guardians of Middle-earth Peter, Fran and Philippa,” Serkis added. “With Mike and Pam, and the Warner Bros team joining the mission, along with WETA and our filmmaking family in New Zealand, it’s all too delightful…”
We are therefore awaiting further information in this regard, which should not be long in coming considering that the release is not that far away and the work should get underway in the next few months.
