The perfect mix between a detective TV series and a love story full of twists and turns: we are obviously talking about “Purple like the sea”, one of the most anticipated dramas of the year. We have reached the second season, to reconnect the many threads left hanging several months ago. Once again with an exceptional cast and several new entries much loved by the public, the series promises to be a real success. “Viola come il mare 2”: the details
After a first season that was very successful, the new episodes of “Viola come il mare 2”, the Mediaset drama. It starts on Friday 3 May 2024, in prime time on Canale 5, while subsequent episodes are broadcast every Thursday. Once again we find the splendid Francesca Chillemi in the role of Viola, an enterprising journalist with a difficult past behind her, and Can Yaman in the role of Francesco, a charming police chief inspector always dealing with mysterious cases.
The cast sees many others great protagonists, from Simona Cavallari to David Coco, and some very promising new entries, such as Ninni Bruschetta and Giovanni Scifoni – who plays the new PM Matteo Ferrara, a man full of charm and surprises. The 12 episodes that make up this second season were filmed in the second half of 2023, between summer and autumn, in some spectacular locations. Once again, the real “protagonist” can only be the city of Palermo, where most of the filming takes place. Here are the places where fiction will catapult us.
The locations of “Viola come il mare 2”
As we have seen, the wonderful city of Palermo it is the backdrop to most of the scenes in “Viola come il mare 2” – as already happened during the first season. Among the most beautiful shots are those taken on the large terrace shared between Viola and Francesco’s apartments, which overlooks the historic center of the city. The view is that of the splendid Cathedral Basilica of the Holy Virgin Mary of the Assumption, also known as the Palermo Cathedral. Considered UNESCO heritage in the context of Arab-Norman Palermo, it is a masterpiece dating back to 1,100 and remodeled several times, according to the various dictates of the eras it went through.
Other shots were then filmed at the mysterious headquarters of Sicilia WebNews, the editorial office where Viola works: the building is located in Arenella district, located along the north coast of the city, at the foot of the rocky promontory of Monte Pellegrino. Here you can see a beautiful golden beach and two small ports that recall the ancient vocation of the village, born as a fishermen’s settlement. Of course, many other scenes were filmed around Palermo. The locations of Palazzo Artale Tumminelloa building dating back to the 17th century now used for receptions and private events.
The fiction also has, among its locations, also the city of Rome and its surroundings. Already in the first season, places such as Civita Castellana, a very pretty Viterbo village which contains precious archaeological evidence, Formello and Ostia had appeared. This time too they are there scenes depicting the capitalwhere the cast and crew of “Viola come il mare 2” headed to the start of work, before flying to Palermo.
