William and Catherine Middleton celebrate their 13th wedding anniversary today, in a difficult year for the couple, struggling with the health problems of the Princess of Wales. Before the future Queen’s cancer diagnosis and undergoing preventive chemotherapy, there were some wonderful moments in the life of the royal couple, including the coronation of William’s father, King Charles III and Queen Camilla, which marked an important change of gear, not only in the monarchy, but in the life of the new Prince and Princess of Wales.

Over the course of 12 years, the couple worked hard, as Kate and William performed a total of 237 official engagements, including such notable occasions as the Welsh Guards’ St David’s Day Parade, Trooping the Colour, Festival of Remembrance , the Royal Variety Show and Carol Service of Together for Christmas. But the most recent months have brought sadness and worry, in particular, the health problems of the princess who, after major abdominal surgery earlier this year, is now undergoing treatment for an unspecified form of cancer. Kate had her husband’s unconditional support, as she herself told the nation in the moving video speech.

The personal alchemy between Kate and William was also a characteristic of their public appearances – recalls the Daily Mail – starting from 29 April 2011, which the British newspaper defines as one of the most beautiful moments of the decade: «The union of the prince William, charming heir to the throne, and the elegant commoner Catherine Middleton. The British weather was also favourable, as the clouds cleared and the new husband and wife emerged from Westminster Abbey to greet the public and found themselves bathed in golden spring sunshine.”
