An awareness campaign is underway to assess the health of one’s liver. The National Institute of Gastroenterology de Bellis of Castellana Grotte, from today 19 April, joins the initiative promoted on the occasion of World Liver Day, offering the possibility of carrying out a free evaluation.

To participate, simply register online until May 19th on the website tinyurl.com/bdfk2mcx and answer a short questionnaire to be started on the most suitable diagnostic path.

“Liver diseases, depending on the different etiology – explains the scientific director Gianluigi Giannelli – they affect about a third of the world’s population, they are often diagnosed late as they are not very symptomatic, and this entails the risk of a diagnosis that is sometimes too late. Hence the importance of an awareness campaign that the institute supports through prevention, starting from fatty liver disease up to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma”.

Throughout the month, information initiatives will follow to explain the importance of prevention which necessarily involves the adoption of a correct lifestyle, up to adhering to a surveillance program for patients with an advanced stage of disease in order to identify the most the possible development of a liver tumor is possible early.

Furthermore, underlines the president of the Civ Enzo Delvecchio, “a team of doctors, nutritionists and researchers will put a detailed diagnostic program at the service of the citizen and will follow the patient for any therapies or to propose an even experimental dietary regime. An intense activity, therefore, which will be completely free for the citizen, made possible by the ‘Salus in Apulia 2.0’ research project financed by the Puglia Region”.
