SPORTS SOUND CENTER – Mario Brozziformer social doctor of Romespoke during the radio broadcast “Those Who Roma” and among the various topics covered he focused on the illness suffered by Evan Ndicka during Udinese-Roma. Here are his words.

Can you explain to us what it feels like in those moments, when you find yourself faced with a player who collapses on the ground and touches his chest?
“This episode takes me back in time to when I was Roma’s doctor, to when a boy crashed very hard into a tap on the sidelines during a football match. These are very bad feelings. Over time I decided to establish a cardio-resuscitator to always be placed on the sidelines for similar episodes. I congratulate the rescuers on the sidelines in Udine for their speed and efficiency in assisting Ndicka.”

The cause of Ndicka’s problem was a strong chest trauma but how much can episodes such as repeated headers affect a footballer’s health?
“A chest trauma can lead to cardiovascular involvement and cause cardiac arrest, this is what cardio-resuscitation equipment on the sidelines is for. However, for a young man like Ndicka the chances of dying from an episode like this are very rare. As far as headers and balls to the chest are concerned, there must be very significant traumas to violate the protections that human beings have in front of the heart and internal organs.”

How soon will Ndicka be able to return to the field in complete safety?
“If it was a traumatic event, and the indications are these, and the heart is healthy Ndicka will be able to recover quickly”.

A comment on the Europa League match between Milan and Roma.
“I am emotionally attached to both Milan and Roma, to Daniele De Rossi even more than Stefano Pioli obviously. De Rossi was good at ‘giving it’ to Pioli in the first leg, he didn’t do anything wrong, he conveyed the right competitive verve to the team He has surrounded himself with the right people. At the moment Roma are playing with De Rossi in mind and things can only improve.”
