MILAN. The British pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca he first admitted in a lawsuit in United Kingdom that its vaccine against Covid-19 can cause “in very rare cases” a side effect known as Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome, thrombosis syndrome with thrombocytopenia (Tts). The reports it Telegraph citing a legal document filed in the British High Court by AstraZeneca last February. Tts causes blood clots and a low number of platelets in the blood. AstraZeneca was sued in one class action on charges that its vaccine, developed with the University of Oxford, caused death and serious injury in dozens of cases.
The battle for compensation
AstraZeneca’s admission, according to which it is not possible to determine the causal mechanism that would lead to TTS, follows an intense legal debate and could lead to millions in compensation. However, the British government had undertaken to underwrite AstraZeneca’s legal costs. Currently, there are 51 cases filed in the British High Court: the victims and their families are asking for compensation in excess of 100 million pounds. The first case was filed last year by Jamie Scotta father of two, who, after receiving the vaccine in April 2021, suffered a permanent brain injury after developing a blood clot and hemorrhage on the brain that left him unable to work.
