This is why these Istat data do not demonstrate a link between vaccines and adverse events
Descriptive text here

According to Dr. Francesco Oliviero it would be a real “atomic bomb from Istat”, these are the “shocking revelations” that the character – appreciated in anti-vax circles – lists in a clip shared on Facebook. This is data from the Italian Institute of Statistics, which according to this narrative demonstrates a link between vaccines against the new Coronavirus and serious adverse events. Let’s see what it really is.

For those in a hurry:

  • There is a clip circulating dating back to at least March 2023, where the learned Oliviero lists alleged Istat data that would link Covid vaccines to an increase in various serious adverse events.
  • Logically it is not clear why Covid-19 should not be more closely related to the listed health problems.
  • Nonetheless, Istat itself has denied these data.

Analyses

Shares on these alleged revelations taken from Istat data may appear with the following caption:

Serum mRNA triggers long-term carcinogenic processes, causing tumors, heart attacks, cardiac arrests, sudden illness, paralysis, fulminant diseases, awakens dormant tumors and autoimmune diseases of the body.

Istat data according to Oliviero

In the clip shared, Dr. Oliviero reports alleged Istat data, listing a series of adverse events that would have increased significantly following Covid vaccinations:

«Spontaneous abortions by 279%; breast cancer by 487%; myocardial infarction by 269%; pulmonary embolism by 468%; ovarian dysfunction by 437%; and lastly – alarmingly – multiple sclerosis has increased by 680%. Sudden illnesses in 2020, when there were no vaccines, were 155 thousand in Italy, in 2022 we reached 548 thousand. They are all ISTAT data.”

Assuming that the data were true, since Covid vaccines stimulate a small quantity of Spike proteins, which instead proliferate in large numbers during the actual infection, it is not clear why such increases should be attributed to vaccines and not to Covid-19 . For example, it has already been established that disorders such as heart, lung and coagulation disorders are more likely if one becomes ill, while those related to vaccination are very rare. We have seen this in numerous analyses, for example here, here and here.

But do Istat data really allow us to correlate the numbers given by Oliviero with the Covid vaccines? No, those data are false, as colleagues Michelangelo Coltelli had reported above Butac in an article from December 2023; and in March of the same year the editorial team of Factbefore the footage started going viral on TikTok.

Assuming that the increases indicated in the tweet refer to the period after 2020 – reports Facta -, it is not possible to verify the percentages as Istat does not publish statistics on the diseases mentioned. The only data available concerns the rate of spontaneous abortions, but the most updated information refers to 2020. Contacted by the editorial staff of Fact, the managers of the National Institute of Statistics have denied the content of the post which was the subject of our verificationconfirming that these are not data processed by the research institute.

We had also published previous analyzes on the alleged links between spontaneous abortions and Covid vaccines (e.g. here, here and here), where it is clear that this link is not proven.

Conclusions

The video where Dr. Oliviero gives numbers (on Istat data) during an interview is based on purely fictional data.
