Covid today Italy, ISS monitoring bulletin and data: latest week’s news

Covid declining in Italy in the last week. Between April 11th and 17th the positive cases of Sars-CoV-2 registered were 538, 16.7% less than the previous 7 days when there were 646. While the deaths were 9, decreased by 40% compared to the 15 recorded last week. It is the picture that emerges from bulletin released by the Ministry of Health on the progress of the epidemiological situation from Covid-19.

The positivity rate in the country remains unchanged at 0.5% compared to the previous week, out of a total of 107,539 swabs carried out, -9.8% compared to the last bulletin (when there were 119,189 tests).

On the hospital front, the occupancy rate of beds in the medical area by Covid patients as of 17 April was confirmed as 1.1% (700 hospitalised), compared to 1.2% (727 hospitalised) on 10 April. While the occupancy rate in intensive care is 0.3% on 17 April (22 hospitalised), compared to 0.2% (21 hospitalised) on 10 April.

Weekly monitoring: Rt below epidemic threshold

The Rt, the Covid transmissibility index calculated with data updated to April 17, in Italy “is below the epidemic threshold, equal to 0.96 (0.79–1.15), slightly decreasing compared to the previous week ( Rt 1.01); the incidence of diagnosed and reported cases (8-14 April) is equal to 0.82 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, substantially stable compared to the previous week; the weekly incidence has a heterogeneous trend in the different regions and provinces compared to the previous week. The highest incidence was reported in Lombardy (1.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), no cases were reported from the regions of Basilicata, Calabria and the autonomous province of Bolzano. Data for the last two weeks may vary as they are subject to consolidation”. They highlight it the data from the weekly Covid monitoring of the Higher Institute of Health (Iss).
