COVID-19: the GOM also suspends the weekly bulletin

“Reggio Calabria, to date, has left the COVID behind us, and this is also thanks to its citizens who behaved virtuously during the long period of the pandemic. This is what emerges from monitoring the epidemic trend of the last year and a half. In this period, in fact, the Great Metropolitan Hospital continued to issue the bulletin containing the statistical data on the progress of the COVID-19 epidemic relating to the Hospital in aggregate and weekly form. In the eighteen months under review, the numbers of infected and hospitalized people have gradually decreased, as has the concrete incidence of symptoms on positive COVID patients”.

This is what was stated in a press release from General Directorate of GOM

“On 5 May 2023, the Director General of the WHO declared the end of Covid-19 as a global health emergency after more than three years. Furthermore, over the last month, only 6 people tested positive at the GOM and 6 were hospitalized, while no one was infected in the last week and, currently, there are no Covid-19 positive patients being cared for in hospital” – the note continues.

“These are extremely comforting data by virtue of which the GOM has decided to suspend, hopefully definitively, the issue of the weekly bulletin (which has been published only on the hospital’s institutional website since 8 November 2022) and thanks the citizens and information professionals for the consistency with which communications were handled. We are reassured that any relevant information will be promptly communicated through official channels. The GOM Management continues to recommend adopting responsible social behavior to protect the health of everyone” – concludes the GOM Management.
