New legal and financial problems for Kevin Costner. The actor and director was sued by the historic company Western Costume, specialized in the rental of film costumes, for non-payment of the clothes used in the second chapter of the western saga Horizon: An American Saga.
The lawsuit, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, was filed in a California state court and also involves Costner’s production company, Territory Pictures. According to what emerged from the documents, Western Costume requires a compensation of approximately 440 thousand dollarsclaiming that numerous invoices were never paid and that some of the rented costumes were returned in damaged condition. In particular, in 2024 the company would have issued an invoice for approximately 134 thousand dollars for the rental of stage clothes, which remained unpaid.
However, this is not the first dispute of this type: at the beginning of 2025, Costner’s company would have already reached a settlement agreement for a similar lawsuit linked to the costumes used in the first chapters of the saga. The story It fits into an already complex context for Horizon: An American Saga, an ambitious project conceived in four films but marked by serious economic difficulties. The first chapter, which cost around 100 million dollars, grossed only 38.7 million at the box office, decreeing a flop that blocked the release of the second film, initially scheduled for 2024. It also seems that Costner is looking for funds for Horizon: Parts 3 and 4.
Meanwhile, Costner faces further legal trouble. An arbitration hearing involving his company, City National Bank and New Line Cinema is set for March 2026 over an alleged violation of co-financing agreements. Added to this is the lawsuit filed by a stunt performer from the second film, who accuses the production of sexual discrimination, harassment and retaliation linked to a scene shot without the intimacy coordinator.
