In view of the next CES, the company anticipated the arrival of LG CLOiDa new robot designed to take on a wide range of tasks within the home. For now it’s a teaser, but the first details suggest a much more ambitious approach than the brand’s previous experiments.
What is immediately striking is the choice of a structure with two fully articulated arms, each equipped with five motorized fingers. A clear leap compared to the home robot shown by LG last year, which had a setup more similar to a mobile assistant on wheels, without real limbs. CLOiD, on the other hand, seems to want to get closer to a decidedly more human manipulation of objects, as suggested by the released images, in which the robot precisely grabs a towel.
A robot closer to human movements
According to LG, each arm of CLOiD has seven degrees of freedoma fact that indicates considerable flexibility in movements and the possibility of performing complex actions, not limited to simple repetitive gestures. This type of architecture is essential if the goal is truly to tackle daily household chores, which require adaptability, delicacy and control.
Robots and citizens together in a common space: the experimental phase begins in Shenzen, China

In the “head” of the robot there is a dedicated chipset, a video camera, sensors, speakers and a display, elements designed for navigation, vocal interaction and more expressive communication with people. LG also talks about its “Affectionate Intelligence” technology, a declination of artificial intelligence aimed at better understanding the context and needs of users, going beyond simple preset commands.

Between promises and reality: what to expect from CLOiD
At the moment LG avoids going into details about the robot’s actual capabilities. The company limits itself to talking about a “wide range” of household taskswithout specifying which are already actually supported and which still remain on paper. It’s an understandable caution: the home robot industry is known for very promising announcements, often followed by products that struggle to live up to expectations.
