He is still considered one of the most talented Italian comedians, a well-known face throughout the 90s and 2000s, as well as the author of satirical books that have become bestsellers. Naturally we talk about Giobbe Covatta, an artist who was very active in those twenty years, also on a political level. Born in Taranto in 1956 but having lived in Naples since he was very young, he worked in the world of navigation for years, before deciding during a work break to make a change in his life by trying the artistic path.

His debut took place at the Derby Club in Milan, where he met Enzo Iacchetti, who was also at the beginning of his successful career. He arrived on television in 1987 thanks to Uua notte all’Odeon on Odeon TV followed by the show Tiramisù on Rai 2. The affirmation, however, occurs thanks to the Maurizio Costanzo Showa talk of which he began to be one of the most frequent guests since 1990.

In the following years he took part in many theater shows, achieving resounding success thanks to God li faie poi li acoppa, which allowed him to make his cinema debut with Pacco, double parcel and counterpaccotto, which was followed by Camere da legge and Muzungu – Uomo bianca. During the 2000s he continued his acting activity, alternating between theater and small screen, taking part, among others, in the program The eighth nano with Corrado Guzzanti and Serena Dandini. In those same years he also made his debut as a writer, publishing the Word of Job, Pancreas – transplant of the book Heart and Sex? Do-it-yourself! just to name a few.

Giobbe Covatta, open-hearted interview: the words of the famous journalist

Close to the Green party, for a certain period of time Covatta was a city councilor for Rome following the 2006 municipal elections, and from 2015 to 2017 he was spokesperson for the Green federation. Reached by Il Corriere della Sera, Giobbe spoke about his career, also revealing curious anecdotes that happened to him in the past. Obviously the actor couldn’t help but talk about Maurizio Costanzothe one who actually launched it: “He had a corrosive malice, together we spoke very badly about a lot of people, I had fun like crazy. Maurizio took one and made it new again. He was not only intelligent, but also very funny.” Giobbe explained, telling how Costanzo was once the red light went out.

And then, a decidedly unexpected confession, that of having lived at the beginning of his career in a concierge with 11 fellow comedians: “The concierge was my home, but then I hosted 10 other comedians who didn’t live in Milan and for convenience they stayed with me. Like Iacchetti who lived in Luino and couldn’t go home every evening”. In the end, wanted to explain why he hasn’t appeared on TV since 2008: “I actually never liked it that much” he declared with disarming frankness.
