It was New Year’s Eve, my whole family was there. That evening I was never worried about my father who had a bit of flu, and I didn’t realize the drama my body was experiencing. I felt exhausted, and at a certain point, I felt a strong pain in my rib. I didn’t tell anyone about that pain, and I left for Riccione with the nanny and my little girl. There I continued to have continuous discomfort, which was getting worse day by day. On the second day of vacation, however, I lie down on the bed and, when the nanny tries to wake me up, she can’t.
After that the symptoms began to be more and more invasive, such as nausea, fatigue, a general malaise that he couldn’t explain: “We thought it was something in the stomach. I had a CT scan with contrast on the advice of my doctor. Finally they told me I had a pulmonary embolism, for at least eight days. I had a bad time.”

Alessandra Moretti tells how her husband was unable to understand the gravity of what had happened to her, almost as if he wanted to avoid the topic so as not to face it and she traced this attitude to Battista’s previous suffering: “He didn’t talk about it, probably because he was burned by the death of his mother, who died at my age. He grew up without a mother, so I think he relived this pain with my illness.”
