Introverted, provocative, shy and bold at the same time. And with a voice that reaches rock from the sweetest melody. His childhood marked by a troubled relationship with his parents and traumatic experiences, the success he achieved when he was still very young, so sudden and sensational that it risked overwhelming him, his battle against drugs and alcohol, his often complicated relationships with discography and the press, friendship with other artists, first of all Lucio Dalla.
From May 10th in bookstores the autobiography of Gianluca Grignani Remnants of rock’n’roll. Sincere diary of an artist (San Paolo editions), which houses the singer’s preface Irama and the record producer’s afterword Stefano Senardi. “I believe there are two types of artists in the world. I don’t remember the first, as Gianluca would say, the second is the one who experiences art on his skin, in his soul, in its purest and most exhausting way”, he writes Irama in the preface.
“He could be defined as a tenacious or stubborn person, but one thing is certain: it is not easy to break him. On the other hand, all artists are gifted with moments of extreme sensitivity, fragility and stubbornness. Many times it is precisely the combination of these aspects which keeps them going, despite the fact that it may cost risks, effort and disorientation even for those who would like to face the journey together…”, he adds in the afterword Stephen Senardi, producer since the 1980s and who in 1992 became president of PolyGram Italia.
“In the subtitle Sincere diary of an artist there is the essence of this book – continues Senardi in the afterword – punctuated by the titles of some of his most famous songs. Because through music, Gianluca Grignani he always told about himself and his vision of the world. In these pages he does so by laying himself bare with absolute sincerity. He says on this page: “There are aspects of myself that I have never said. These are things that not everyone has the courage to say, but everyone knows how to say or can say it. And which, in my opinion, is worth reading.”
The artist’s narrative is enriched by unpublished stories and poems. Gianluca Grignani talks about the creation, day after day, of his new musical project which will see the light by the end of this year: the literary, cinematographic and musical sources of inspiration, the effort and joy when an idea takes shape, the relationships with the musicians who work with him. All with one final goal: to make this new music heard by as many people as possible. Because only on stage does Grignani manage to sweep away the residues that life leaves behind to release the force that has always saved him: rock ‘n’ roll. The book will be presented on May 10, at 7 pm, at the Live Stage of the Turin International Book Fair, in an event for the press and the public.
