Thursday evening, during an episode of the program Gorgeous setting, on Rai 3, the comedian, actress and television presenter Geppi Cucciari invited four women to talk about male impotence. The comic sketch, created as if it were a section of an in-depth talk show (titled “Impotence and SUVs: what’s true?”), was a response to the controversial April 18th episode of the program Door to doorRai 1’s main evening political talk show, in which the host Bruno Vespa invited six men to talk about the right to abortion: the fact that no woman was involved in the studio as a guest to speak on a health issue female reproductive rights and women’s freedom of choice had been widely criticized.
In addition to Cucciari, the comedy sketch on Thursday evening was attended by the actress Valeria Solarino, the lawyer and writer Ester Viola, Francesca Vecchioni, president of the Diversity Foundation, which deals with media and inclusion, and the theater actress Federica Fracassi . The whole discussion revolved around the cliché of men compensating for their sexual insecurities with large and expensive cars, such as SUVs, and an imaginary economic measure adopted by the government for men who, to compensate for their insecurities, wanted to buy two or three SUVs each.
