After the recent ones Fabrizio Corona’s revelations regarding the alleged “Alfonso Signorini system”the sixty-one year old host of Big Brother has decided to suspend all its commitments with Mediaset. The television group itself made this known with a statement released a short while ago: «Mediaset welcomes Alfonso Signorini’s decision to suspend his editorial commitment as a precaution, given the need to protect himself and the people involved in the media affair in which he was reluctantly involved. Mediaset will act with determination in all locations on the exclusive basis of objective elements and verified facts to counter the spread of defamatory or slanderous contents and reconstructions, to protect respect for people, facts and one’s interests”. The group specifies that «as part of a primary listed European group, Mediaset has the duty to protect the integrity of its activities and editorial productsas well as its reputation towards the market and the public”. But «at the same time he reiterates that those who work for the company are required to comply with clear principles of correctness, responsibility and transparencyas defined by the Code of Ethics, which is applied without exceptions. All investigations and checks are underway to ensure compliance.”
It all stems, as is known, from the heavy accusations launched by Corona in its format The most false. A self-suspension which in recent hours had been announced by the lawyers Daniela Missaglia and Domenico Aiello, who have recently taken on the defense of the host, respectively in civil and criminal proceedings, «in the context of the complex affair which sees him victim of serious and continuous criminal conduct». «It is the intention of this defense to press charges every detail of this slanderous and defamatory campaignorchestrated with the clear intention of destroying the honourability, respectability and brilliant career of Dr. Alfonso Signorini”, wrote the lawyers, explaining that the self-suspension “has the objective of addressing these very serious illicit conducts, which are evident to all, and above all the widespread reverberation which they find in some nonchalant media”. Gentlemen, «professional who built with scruple, seriousness and self-sacrifice an entire career as a journalist, author, director and television presenter, is forced to suspend all his ongoing editorial commitments with Mediaset as a precaution.” The self-suspension, the lawyers added, “has already been communicated to the company”. Now the company has announced that it has accepted it.
