Meredith Maines has resigned as the Sussexes’ communications director. The couple still dealing with new employee troubles
Meredith Maines, communications manager for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, has (already) resigned from his official position, but, as we read above Peoplewill remain in office until the first days of 2026 to help his successor (currently still without a name). Maines was appointed communications manager for the Sussexes about ten months ago.
The couple announced their hiring on February 28. Maines oversaw the communications of the couple’s non-profit activities but also the entrepreneurial initiatives linked to the public visibility of the foundation.
A spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed the change within the staff: «Meredith Maines has concluded work with the Dukes of Sussex. They are grateful for their contribution and wish them well.” Maines also shared a statement, saying: “After an inspiring year of working with Prince Harry and Meghan, I will take on a new opportunity in 2026. I have the utmost gratitude and respect for the couple and the team, and for the good they are doing in the world.”
Maines’ farewell comes at a time of continuous turnover within the family communications team. She is one of many publicists who have abandoned the couple since she left the royal family and moved to the United States in 2020. By 2024, global spokeswoman Ashley Hansen had resigned after two years to launch her own consultancy. Earlier this summer, three communications staffers – including UK-based Charlie Gipson and California-based Kyle Boulia – also left their roles.
Emily Robinson, who previously worked for Netflix and was named director of communications, left the role in October 2025 after just four months. Maines worked with Method Communications, the external agency in charge of supporting Meghan and Harry’s communications activities, and mainly handled Markle’s public relations. Second People the couple has already chosen the news agency that will represent them in the United States from 2026 onwards.
Maines was photographed earlier this year with King Charles’ communications director Tobyn Andreae at a private club in London’s Mayfair. The meeting was seen as a potential moment of rapprochement between father and son through their communications managers. This was months before the brief meeting last September between Prince Harry and his father, Charles III.
