Alfonso Signorini self-suspends himself from Mediaset after Fabrizio Corona’s accusations

In the midst of the media storm that has hit him in recent weeks, Alfonso Signorini decided to suspend all of his editorial commitments with Mediaset. A drastic decision, communicated to the company by the presenter’s lawyers, following the accusations circulated on the web and relaunched by Fabrizio Corona’s online format, which implicate the host of Big Brother.

Signorini, “a professional who has built an entire career as a journalist, author, director and television presenter with scruple, seriousness and self-sacrifice, is forced to suspend as a precaution all of his ongoing editorial commitments with Mediaset”. The lawyers Daniela Missaglia and Domenico Aiello announced the decision. “It is the intention of this defense to denounce every detail of this slanderous and defamatory campaignorchestrated with the clear intent of destroying the honorability, respectability and brilliant career of Dr. Alfonso Signorini”, explain the lawyers. The objective is “to face these very serious illicit conductsobvious to everyone, and above all the widespread reverberation they find on some nonchalant media”.

With an official note, Mediaset made it known that it “welcomes” Signorini’s decision but that “it will act with determination in all locations on the exclusive basis of objective elements and facts verified to counter the spread of defamatory or slanderous contents and reconstructionsto protect respect for people, facts and one’s own interests”. And again: “as part of a primary listed European group, Mediaset has the duty to protect the integrity of its activities and editorial products, as well as its reputation towards the market and the public”. But “at the same time it reiterates that those who work for the company are required to comply with clear principles of correctness, responsibility and transparencyas defined by the Code of Ethics, which is applied without exceptions. All investigations and checks are underway to ensure compliance.”

Corona’s accusations

The case exploded on the November 15th episode of The most falseentitled “The Price of Success – Part 1”, in which Corona claimed the existence of an alleged “system” to access the Big Brother. They were shown during the broadcast sexually explicit chats and imagesaccompanied by the accusation of advances aimed at candidates and contestants of the reality show. In response to the accusations, Signorini filed a complaint which sparked an investigation coordinated by the prosecutor Alessandro Gobbis and the deputy Letizia Mannella. Corona, reports the Corriere della Serait turns out now investigated for dissemination of images with sexually explicit content. Searches were also carried out in Milan at his home and at the Milan headquarters of the format’s production company, Velvet Cut Srl. The seized material is now under investigation by investigators.
