Bugatti Tourbillon: like a watch

TRANSITION TO THE ASPIRATED – The new Bugatti Tourbillon has the ambitious goal of taking back the scepter of the fastest and most exclusive hypercar in the world. For this reason, the French company deploys all its strengths and chooses a name that derives from the world of haute horlogerie (the French word used to indicate a particular and sophisticated type of mechanism). Having said goodbye to the historic 8-litre W16, Bugatti welcomes the new one 8.3 liter V16 aspirated designed by Cosworth, combined with a system plug-in hybrid. The latter is the work of Rimac experts (the Croatian company has taken control of Bugatti since 2021), and involves the use of three electric motors which, in addition to greater thrust, ensure travel even on electricity only.

THREE ELECTRIC MOTORS – Let’s talk about numbers: the V16 of the Bugatti Tourbillon, which weighs “only” 252 kg, spins at 9,000 rpm and is individually capable of delivering up to 1,000 HP (the same power as the first Veryron). Added to these are the 789 HP ensured by three electric motorsone with 200 HP located in the gearbox connected to the rear wheels, while at the front there are two units of 300 HP each: power is provided by a drums 25 kWh lithium ion battery integrated in the central tunnel. The overall power is 1,800 HP, with a torque of 900 Nm, and the declared electric range is 60 km. The transition from the W16 to the V16 has not affected the soundtrack of the engine which now offers decidedly higher pitched tones than in the past.

WHAT A MONSTER – Le performance they are purebred hypercars: 0-100 km/h in two seconds, 0-300 in less than five seconds, 0-300 in less than 10. The impressive speed flagship, unlockable exclusively with the second key, the Speed Key, is 445 km/h.

IT LOOKS LIKE THE CHIRON – Despite the ballast of the battery, the Bugatti Tourbillon weighs less than the Chiron, tipping the scales at 1,995 kg. The new Bugatti is also slightly shorter: 467 cm in length, with a wheelbase of 274 cm, a height of 118 and a width of 205 cm. These “numbers” should ensure better dynamic qualities compared to the Chiron.

LIKE A WATCH – Looking inside the passenger compartment you can easily understand why it was chosen Tourbillon as the name of this one Bugatti. The sophisticated haute horlogerie mechanism appears to have been used to create the instrument panel, made up of 600 parts, with gears of titanium lean on rubies. Everything was created with the collaboration of a Swiss watchmaker. Although analog, like all the instruments made up of buttons and knobs, is capable of transmitting an eternal beauty that crystallizes time. The work is completed by the leather interior and the retractable screen that emerges from the dashboard only at the driver’s request.

FROM 2026 – To enter the world of the “fantastic complications” of Bugatti Tourbillon they are needed 3.8 million euros, to which taxes must be added. Production is limited: from 2026 only 250 examples will leave the production lines which will be set up exclusively according to customer preferences.
