On Toyota Yaris Cross it is now possible to have the new 1.5 Hybrid 130 powertrainmore powerful than the 1.5 Hybrid 115 and with elements of the hybrid technology of fifth generation. Let’s try to understand how much this new version costs and what it offers.
To have a thoroughly renewed Yaris Cross we will have to wait until 2026, for now Toyota has added a more powerful hybrid powertrain to the range, available for purchase since last May. The 1.5 Hybrid 130 system takes advantage of the “Dual Hybrid” technology, featuring a new transaxle with a larger and more powerful electric motor-generator (MG1). The power control unit (PCU) has also been modified and now guarantees a 12% increase in total system power.
Power which, in fact, compared to the basic system of the Yaris Cross, which continues to offer 116 HP/85 kW, with the 1.5 Hybrid 130 goes up to 130 HP/96 kW. The torque of the MG2 engine has also been increased across the entire rev range, with an increase of 30% – from 141 Nm to 185 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h has therefore been reduced by half a second (10, 7 seconds), while overtaking from 80 to 120 km/h is reduced by 0.4 seconds (8.9 seconds). The impact on emissions is minimal, with the system reaching 101-116 g/km, while fuel consumption is equal to 4.5-5.2 litres/100 km.
The new 1.5 Hybrid 130 engine will be available on the top of the range trim levels, including the new Premiere and GR SPORT. So, making a very short recap, the Yaris Cross Active remains FWD with the 1.5 Hybrid 115 system, the Trend can be had with both systems, FWD or AWD, the Lounge, the Premiere and the GR SPORT are only available with the new system, FWD or AWD. The first price to have the updated powertrain is 31,700 euros on Yaris Cross Trend 130 FWDalthough it is possible to take advantage of state incentives and any Toyota discounts.
