Used car ecobonus sold out, what incentives are still available

The success of the ecobonus is repeated, with the funds dedicated to used cars which sold out quickly. The race for the contribution made available by the Government and the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy (Mimit) was in fact fast, with the 200 million euros allocated which were pulverized in record time. A replay of what has already happened in the past, yet another proof of the hunt for the opportunity for Italians who always await with trepidation the arrival of the measure for the purchase of cars. And this year, the ecobonus for the new purchase category was also sold out quickly and sold like hot cakes as the limit ran out.

Ecobonus, a short-lived race

The departure of last June 3rd foreshadowed an ending already known to everyone, with the ecobonus that was “brushed” away in the blink of an eye. It’s certainly nothing new, but it’s impressive to see a fund like this once again dried up within a short time. And as has already happened in past years, 2024 is also confirmed as the year of hunting for great opportunities for Italians, with the fund designed for the purchase of cars selling like hotcakes. In fact, in just a few days, the 200 million earmarked for the purchase of electric cars, but also used ones, have been reached sold out.

Mimit, in fact, has revealed data which, knowing the total sum made available with the ecobonus, leaves everyone speechless. For used cars, in fact, there are only 900 euros left which are not even enough to cover a single additional purchase. For battery-powered mopeds and motorcycles the situation is much worse, because the resources allocated by the government for 2024 can be defined as exhausted, as only 34 euros remain.

Another category that has sold out is that of electric vehicles used for transporting goods, in whose portfolio they remain only 1,820 euros.

Funds still available

But for those who have not had the opportunity or time to access the ecobonus there is no need to despair, because for certain categories there is still a lot of availability. Compared to electric and used ones, in fact, the situation is very different for plug-in hybridsthose with carbon dioxide emissions between 21 and 60 grams per kilometer, and of hybrid, those with emissions between 61 and 135 grams per kilometer. In fact, for the former, 22 million euros were used out of the 125.7 available, while for the latter 98 million out of over 276.6. A scenario which, given what happened with the other categories, proceeds slowly.

The situation is also very different for trucks and pickup trucks with traditional engines, with the incentive funds remaining substantial, for a value of around 26 million euros, while 14 million are available for electric two-wheelers.

In total, the government has allocated one billion euros for car incentives for 2024 and of these, almost 300 million have already been spent with bookings made in the first months of 2024, with the actual availability at departure of 710 million euros. This is a figure which, however, according to the supply chain, will not be enough to address the industry transition.
