Subsequent delays pushed the date to 2023, then to 2024, and finally to 2025. The initial price of the Roadster was set at $250,000 both for the basic model and for the Foundation Series, available in the first year of production. However, as happened with the Cybertruck, the prices have disappeared from the official website. It is however possible to book a Roadster with a deposit of 50,000 dollars, of which 45,000 must be paid within ten days and 5,000 at the time of booking.
The Roadster was promoted as the fastest car in the world, capable of acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in less than a second. But for Elon Musk, this feature is not the most interesting of the vehicle. In a tweet, Musk explained that the model’s design goals had been increased and described the collaboration with SpaceX as “one of a kind.”
When some members of Tesla Silicon Valley asked if the Roadster could actually fly, Musk responded with an emoji hinting that something extraordinary was on the way. Then, four months later, he confirmed on X that the new Roadster can fly, without however providing further details on the altitude, duration or speed of the flight. Based on reconstructions, it seems that the Roadster, equipped with the SpaceX package, should have some cold air thrusters which could actually allow it to fly.
