Azores, the new direct flight from Italy

And there’s great news: thanks to Azores Airlines, Italian tourists will be able to reach the island of São Miguel, the main island of the archipelago, much more easily. In fact, starting from 5 June 2024, the airline has introduced a new direct flight from Milan Malpensa to Ponta Delgada airport, the administrative capital of the Azores. The connection, which will continue until the end of September, includes two weekly departures (Wednesday and Friday) at 2.10pm from Italy and at 7.15am from the Portuguese archipelago.

What to see in the Azores

In short, summer 2024 is the right opportunity to go holiday in the Azores and thus discover its breathtaking views. Thanks to their volcanic origin and distance from the mainland, the islands have maintained their wildest charm and still uncontaminated nature. Of its 9 islands, the largest is that of Sao Miguel, an excellent starting point for a journey of exploration. Here you absolutely must visit the city of Ponta Delgada, and then dive into the hinterland and admire the large lakes that occupy the craters of the nearby volcano.

No less fascinating is the island of Terceira, the third largest in the archipelago. The city of Angra do Heroísmo, once the capital of the Azores, is today a jewel waiting to be discovered, protected by UNESCO. Its military fortifications offer a glimpse into the past, while the coast that unravels from here is the perfect destination for those looking for dream beaches. The ideal place to enjoy peace and tranquility isSanta Maria Island, the southernmost and easternmost of the archipelago. Here everything gives serenity, from the rolling hills covered in vegetation to the white sand beaches.

Finally, the island of Faial is definitely more touristy: the city of Horta is a lively town where you can find hotels and restaurants of all kinds. Fans of the marine world cannot miss the opportunity to visit the bay of Porto Pim, once dedicated to whale hunting. Today it is one of the beaches most frequented by tourists, with beaches also equipped for families.
