three thousand were sold in April

Growing by 7.5% compared to twelve months earlier, the new car market recorded good development in April 2024. On the total sold electric cars, however, represented just 2.2%which rises to 5.6% if plug-in hybrids are also included in the count.

Ultimately, the ecological transition is still a long way from taking hold along our peninsula. And part of the phenomenon must be ascribed to this year’s incentive plan, still blocked. According to the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, it will arrive in the next few weeks, but the constant postponements prevent us from being calm.

Incentive plan to be activated urgently

“April data once again shows the urgency of making the new car incentives operational”, declares Fabio Pressi, president of Motus-E. Which continues: “Following the announcement of an imminent Ecobonus that is more advantageous than the one in force, it is completely natural that citizens and businesses postpone their purchases to benefit from more convenient concessions.

“We therefore hope – adds the manager – that the new incentives, already made known, can be implemented quickly, to allow those who want to switch to electric to make their decision concrete and avoid reaching a paralysis of the market, moreover in a period of year historically characterized by very important sales volumes”.

During the fourth month of 2024, 3,173 new full electric vehicles were registered, 16,402 in the four-month period. Strange as it seems, the data is worse than in April 2023, when the performances were not exciting anyway.

The electrification of mobility is a global megatrend and as such – highlights Pressi – places Italy at a crossroads: be the protagonist of this technological innovation to guarantee the competitiveness of the national industry and relaunch employment in the sector, or stay behind and step aside, with all the consequences of the case. In our opinion there can only be one choice“.

Charging points for public use from leaders in Europe

In the final words, Motus-E then addresses an equally heartfelt topic, that is, charging points for public use, exceeding 54,000 units. Despite the excellent territorial coverage, registrations are scarce and this is where efforts need to be increased.

The scenario that has been created also leaves Motus-e quite stunned. There are some interesting foundations, however some critical issues remain, mainly attributable to the high list prices, a crucial deterrent in a country where the average income of the population is rather modest.

“In Italy – it is read – we are witnessing a singular phenomenon at European level, with a boom in charging stations that places us at the top in this field, in the face of an electric car market that is struggling to take off.

The recipe to follow is outlined by Pressi: “To ensure the success of the transition, vehicles and infrastructure must move hand in hand – he explains peremptorily –. For this reason, alongside a more stable and clear regulatory context, It is also essential that the automotive and energy supply chains can increasingly communicate and work togetheras we do within Motus-E, fueling a virtuous development from which the entire country system will be able to reap the benefits”.
