The driving license is the most important document that every motorist has. It’s about what allows each of us to get behind the wheel on a regular basis, without incurring rather high penalties. When you do not have your driving license with you, you may receive a fine in the event of a check. The motorist is then asked to present himself at the local law enforcement offices and show the document within seven days.
Until not long ago it was essential to have with you the driving license in original format. Currently, however, through the IO application, compatible with all mobile devices, it is possible to show your driving license in digital format.
The driving license is obtained only after undergoing the exam, it consists of a theoretical test, medical examination and subsequently the practical test. A complex exam but which still allows you to be sure of being able to go on the street without being a danger for themselves and for others.
Subsequently, after obtaining the license, it is necessary proceed with the renewal. But there are cases in which in addition to incurring the essential expense to have the license valid again, it is also necessary to proceed by paying an additional fee.
License renewals
Italian law tells us that the citizen can obtain a driving license after 18 years. The limit that is imposed is a minimum age, but not a maximum age, at least at the moment. Very often they have talked about the possibility of deciding an age at which the driving license can be taken away from the motorist, but currently there has not yet been any decision.
Until the completion of 50th year of age the motorist must proceed with the renewal of the document every 10 years. Subsequently, the range of years between one renewal and another is significantly reduced, moving to five years, then two and in some specific cases you can request an annual review.
What happens if the license is particularly worn
The license, just like any other document you have when you start driving, must be in perfect condition. The police forces carrying out the checks must be able to consult the motorist’s data simply and quickly. Therefore, in the event that the license is excessively worn, it is necessary to proceed with the request for a duplicate.
Obviously this is a cost, generally it is requested not only when the license is ruined, but also when it has been lost, there has been a theft or it has been accidentally destroyed. In all these cases the tax to be paid is €42 so that the document can be returned.
