BYD unveils the Ocean-M sports car, and now it really scares Western brands

BYD is rapidly expanding outside its home market, China, and intends to do so with more and more models. In recent days we showed you the Italian preview of the BYD Seal U, but it could also be among the future models a sporty compact just shown.

It happened during the Beijing Motor Show which, as usual, is bringing many new features, especially for the Chinese market, which is now the most important in the world. The new BYD is called Ocean-Monce again recalling the sea as inspiration, this time more directly.

In fact, on the front we find features of the “Ocean Design” already seen recently, for example right on the Sealwhile the development of the car and the rear are new. The rear spoiler cut in two parts resembles that of the MG4, even if it is actually placed higher up.

For the moment BYD has revealed practically nothing about the Ocean-M, except the aesthetic side. The only thing we know – although it will have to be confirmed – is that with this car it should debut of the new dedicated platform to electric cars, called for now e-Platform 4.0as well as a new concept of cell-to-body battery. In this type of installation there are neither modules nor a real battery pack, but the cells are inserted into load-bearing parts of the frameto save further weight and space.

According to local media, the Ocean-M could be launched in the third quarter of this year, with an equivalent price in a range between 20,000 and 30,000 euros.
