No incentives? Let’s close everything. “This is how Stellantis blackmails us” – Turin Chronicle

A new chapter opens clash between Stellantis and the Italian government which, as is known, is pushing for the Group to return to producing at least one million vehicles in Italy. But the former Fiat empire responded by closing the factory and accusing the government of not having yet launched the promised incentives. “It’s blackmail” they say in political circles.

Until this morning, Mimit minister Adolfo Urso he had not yet expressed himself officially. But from the rooms of the Ministry of Made in Italy, voices of deep irritation filter through for the latest “slap in the face” – to use the words of the unions – from the Group to Italy: after announcements of redundancies and layoffs and solidarity contracts, here is the stop total production in Mirafiori for the entire month of May. The reason? “The market is not doing well and the promised incentives are missing”.

Stellantis’ position is, officially, to adapt production to market demands. And the Fiat 500e doesn’t pull enough. “It’s the lack of incentives at European level” is the unofficial explanation. Furthermore, the Group will announce the first quarterly data next Tuesday 30 Aprilbetween orders and revenues, but at the moment it is already possible to talk about a drop in production of around 10% globally in these first months of 2024.

Is it just due to the lack of incentives? “Fake news” they say from the Ministry, where they also point out that the Prime Ministerial Decree on eco-incentives for almost one billion euros has already been submitted for signature by the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and the green light from the Court of Auditors for publication is awaited. But the surprise is that according to ministerial sources no car produced in Mirafiori would fall within the parameters of eco-incentives: the Fiat 500e would not fall within the “popular segments”, or rather it falls within it in terms of production segment but not in terms of price. Mirafiori’s other production is the Maserati, decidedly in a different price range.

Senator Matteo Gelmetti also attacks: “Unacceptable blackmail. Stellantis lies knowing she lies. The destinies of the 500 and Maserati are in no way comparable to the policy of government incentives.” The tug-of-war continues.
