Mazda does things big and after the success of the CX-60, presents a new 7-seater maxi SUV arranged on three rows of seats: the brand new one Mazda CX-80. It is a vehicle designed to conquer the European audience with taste and refinement, technology and comfort, as well as enough space to carve out the role of flagship of the Hiroshima brand.
The style of the new Mazda CX-80
The new Mazda CX-80 concretely follows the evolution of the exclusive approach Kodo style of Mazda, in fact the designers went out of their way to give the large SUV elegance and purity, typical of minimalist Japanese aesthetics, which makes all superfluous elements disappear. This choice is the result of the exclusive approach “hands-on” of Mazda’s designers and master craftsmen, whose goal is to produce cars “Crafted in Japan”, that is, creating cars that can come exclusively from Japan due to the design and construction philosophy that characterize them.
With a length approaching five meters and a wheelbase of over three metres, the newborn CX-80 it is longer, taller and with a markedly longer wheelbase than the recent and popular CX-60, which remains firmly in the market. Along with two fold-flat third-row seats, the CX-80 will be offered with three possible configurations of the second rowincluding having two independent armchairs with a console in the center or with a central corridor.
As in the case of the CX-60, the wide instrument panel and the side air vents that flow into the door trim reinforce the width and spaciousness of the passenger compartment. The very thick console has a powerful shape that crosses the space from front to rear, expressing both structural solidity and the presence of the powertrain underneath, with eight-speed automatic transmission and engine mounted longitudinally in front of it.
The back of the console is equipped with USB ports and heating controls to improve rear seat comfort. The rear seat console has evolved into a more integrated form, with the addition of metallic trim that matches the front console and door trims to create a cohesive space.
The technology available
The new Mazda CX-80 is packed with technology to fill its role as the flagship of Mazda’s European range and includes three new features: the new Alexa voice control in the cockpit, which can be activated with the order “Hey Alexa“, a new hybrid navigation system which combines the advantages of offline and online services, and finally the new system Trailer Hitch Viewwhich uses the central display and advanced graphics to help position the car in relation to a trailer.
Wide engine options: also diesel
The new one makes its debut Mazda CX-80 is available with a choice of two different powertrains: thee-Skyactiv PHEV, which combines a four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor, for engaging performance with first-class environmental friendliness; and the Diesel hybrid unit e-Skyactiv Dsix-cylinder in-line, highly efficient and equipped with M Hybrid Boost 48V system by Mazda, which guarantees very engaging performance for the segment in terms of emissions and reduced consumption.
To go into detail, the e-Skyactiv PHEV provides a total system power of 327 HP (241 kW) and 500 Nm of torque. To understand how this car manages to run smoothly, just look at its numbers: acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, while the maximum speed stops at 195 km/h; 60 km is the range available only in electric mode. With its strong environmental credentials, it has a WLTP average fuel consumption of 1.6 l/100km and CO emissions2 of just 36 g/km.
L’e-Skyactiv D which develops 249 HP, is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 219 km/h. Average fuel consumption is 5.7-5.8 l/100 km with CO emissions2 equal to 148-151 g/km. Not bad for a vehicle of this size and stage presence. An excellence for those who are attentive to consumption and want a car to cover many kilometers with ease and ease.
Both powertrains are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and i-Activ AWD all-wheel drive system of Mazda. The system Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive), already introduced on the CX-60, offers the possibility to choose between four driving modes (plus EV mode for the PHEV). Traveling in the new Mazda CX-80 can be compared to jumping on a fascinating flying carpet.
The mechanics of the new Mazda CX-80
The platform of the new Mazda CX-80 it is equipped with double wishbone front suspension and multilink rear suspension to guarantee high levels of ride comfort, a stable posture and uniform control of the car body. The system of permanent all-wheel drive rear-biased combines the stability and traction of an AWD with the neutral cornering characteristics of a rear-wheel drive. The new Mazda CX-80 has an impressive towing capacity of 2,500 kg. All these features place the large maxi SUV on a relevant level, as a point of reference in the category for driving pleasure, comfort and dynamism.

The price list of Mazda CX-80
Pre-sales of the new Mazda CX-80 will begin in May and the car will be on sale in all Mazda dealerships from autumn 2024 with prices starting from 61,235 euros.
