Il 2025 It has proven to be a very intense year for the auto sector. Despite a complex context, marked by the price war in China, regulatory uncertainty in Europe and trade tensions with the United States, manufacturers have continued to launch new models, reaching record numbers.
In this framework, the electric had a leading role: 55% of the new production cars presented during the year were in fact zero-emission.
As many as 173 new models in one year
From January to December 22nd they were 173 new features revealedbetween passenger cars and pick-ups. The count took into account official presentations from manufacturers in the United States, Europe, Russia, Turkey, Iran, India, Malaysia, Vietnam, China, Korea and Japan. Light commercial vehicles, quadricycles and deep facelifts were excluded from the total, while both simple and more significant rebadges were included.
The most interesting data concerned the engines: 96 models out of 173 were made available with 100% electric propulsion. In other words, electric cars have represented over 55% of the new products for 2025excluding hybrids, plug-in hybrids and extended-range electrics.
A clear signal of how electrification has remained central in the strategies of manufacturers, even in a complex market phase.

China led the transition
As expected, most of the new electric ones it came from China. After the lengthening of the commercial life of internal combustion engines in Europe and a less stringent regulatory approach in the United States, China remained the only major global market where the transition from ICE to BEV has proceeded decisively.
Of the 96 electric models presented in 2025, 53 (55%) carried a Chinese branda share consistent with the weight of the Chinese market in global BEV sales.

The comparison between other geographical areas is also interesting. THE Japanese brands they presented 15 new electric cars, surpassing the European manufacturers, stuck at 13 models (since it also included Togg and the Volvo, Polestar, smart and Lotus brands). The American brands instead unveiled 9 new light electric vehicles, while the Korean ones stopped at 4 models.

Looking at the internal proportions of the individual markets, significant differences emerged:
- China: Almost two out of three new model launches were electric
- Europe: electric cars represented 46% of new products
- Japan: similar percentage, at 44%
- US: 9 of 11 electric models, including two Jeeps, two Buicks (destined for China), and one model each for Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, Slate and Tesla
A figure that confirmed how, despite different strategies, electric has remained a fundamental pillar for the future of the car, especially in the more advanced markets.
