Which neighborhood you go to, typical food you find. The Neapolitan writer Amedeo Colella presented ‘Naples: An Eater’s Guide to the City’, the first gastronomic guide written in English and divided into neighborhoods.

Together with him, in the Galleria Principe di Napoli, at the Bistrot Lazzarelle space, also the consul general of the United States of America in Naples Tracy Roberts-Pounds. The publication by Culinary Backstreets, a company specializing in travel and culinary publications, with the contribution of Giuseppe D’Angelo and Luciana Squadrilli, promises to become an indispensable tool for food lovers, travellers.

“I am very happy to be here and this book is very important. There are many Americans who come to Naples to appreciate Neapolitan culture but above all good food” underlines the consul. It goes from the suggestive streets of the historic center with its treasures (a restaurant that sells only dishes with ragù, a fourth-generation shop that experiments with cod sashimi) to the ‘shabby-chic’ Spanish neighborhoods, where an old-school delicatessen prepares the most refined aperitif in the city. The exploration takes the reader to the less frequented neighborhoods, such as Pendino, cradle of the fried pizza that inspired ‘The Gold of Naples’ with Sophia Loren, and to places in Campania, such as Paestum and the Strada della Mozzarella.

“Beyond pizza and what you’ll find listed in most guidebooks, there’s a wide range of dishes, regional products and, most importantly, places that reflect Naples’ role as the heart of Italy’s emerging identities,” explains Amedeo Colella. Its iconic pizzerias, temples of fried food, are also mentioned. To further explore, the book features a “Specials” section, which delves into some of the city’s most fascinating secrets—from its aperitivo culture to its cornerstones, like tomatoes and cheese.
