Saturday June 29th in Forio in the churchyard of the Archconfraternity S. Maria Visitapoveri the first Italian presentation of the book will be held: “The successor – My memories of Benedict XVI” by Papa Francesco and Javier Martinez Brocal. The book is the result of three conversations between Pope Francis and Vatican expert Javier Martinez-Brocal between July 2023 and January 2024.
During these conversations Pope Francis recounts his first meeting with Benedict XVI after his election in Castel Gandolfo, his arrival by helicopter, their first embrace as “brothers” and their prayer in the chapel kneeling at the same pew.
On that same day Benedict XVI handed him the documents of the investigation scandalo Vatileaks and the solutions that he thought could lead to forgiveness even for those who had made mistakes and to turn the page. Many members of the Vatican were involved, some directly, others involuntarily, but for Benedict XVI everyone had to be forgiven.
And again Pope Francis talks about their harmony from day one and his decision following what he learned in that meeting to get help only part time from his two secretaries because: «Having an omnipotent secretary is not a good thing».
The author Javier Martinez Brocal will be present at the presentation and will be in conversation with him the professor. Raffaele Calabro‘ member of the national bioethics committee, former rector of the biomedical campus university of Rome and parliamentarian of the Italian Republic and Don Antonio Mazzella chaplain of the Rizzoli Hospital in Lacco Ameno and himself author of a book on Pope Francis. Promoters of the event are the Archconfraternity of Santa Maria di Visitapoveri in person Prior lawyer Marianna Verde and her brother Dr. Vincenzo Zollo and Dr. Ciro di Gennaro head of the medical and emergency department of the Anna Rizzoli Hospital in Lacco Ameno.
