Letizia of Spain betrayed King Felipe, gossip confirmed by a book

In her homeland there are those who consider her cold, detached and not very empathetic. After ten years on the throne, Queen Letizia continues to be little loved by the Spaniards, who however from now on may have one more reason to oppose it after the recent publication of Jaime Peñafiel’s new burning biography. A well-known journalist in Spain, the 91-year-old author has long worked for Hola! and now it’s in the bookstore with Letizia’s silencesa book that promises to reveal the queen’s betrayals against Felipe with his ex-brother-in-law Jaime del Burgo. Just as happened with Harry’s memoir in London, this volume also risks shaking the balance of the Crown, precisely in the days of the twentieth wedding anniversary of the couple, who got married on 22 May 2004.

A book reveals the Queen of Spain’s affairs with her ex-brother-in-law.

Did Letizia Ortiz cheat on Felipe?

The author, who already in the previous publication entitled Letizia and me had mentioned the relationship between the then journalist and Jaime — statements that had cost him the dismissal from El Mundo —, now he delves into the extramarital affair with excerpts of conversations and testimonies that convey the image of a king “crushed and destroyed” by his wife’s alleged infidelity, and of a queen cold, emotionally immature and passive-aggressive”, and for this reason “hated” by the royal family. In the book the author collects the words of Jamie, who tells how Felipe was “aware of the fact that Letizia was betraying him in real time” since his bodyguards have the obligation to report exactly where the queen is. The writer claims that the bodyguards took part in a trip to New York that she took in 2011 with her “lover” Jaime del Burgo, whom she had known and dated before meeting Felipe. “That day [a New York]was accompanied by her faithful companions, who, no doubt, would pass a report on to the Home Office or [al Palazzo di] Zarzuela” writes the author, according to whom Felipe would have “fallen into hell” because of the alleged “betrayal”.

The Spanish royal house preferred not to comment on the statements contained in the book.

What really happened among the Spanish royals

The Spanish royal house has so far refused to comment, but it is clear how such statements revive the nightmare of a separation de facto similar to that between Sofia and Juan Carlos, accused not only of tax fraud and corruption (and for this reason forced to abdicate), but also of numerous betrayals against his wife, who instead has always tolerated her husband’s escapades with silence and dignity . In the case of Letizia and Felipe, the roles seem reversed and the queen is described as “cold, indestructible and determined”, ready to resort to “silence as a way to control and punish other people”. “Everything in Letizia’s world has been broken,” we read in her opening chapter, due to alleged “deceit, adultery and betrayal” for which she would be hated as much by her mother-in-law as by her sisters-in-law Cristina and Elena.

A tough and calculating real portrait emerges. In fact, it seems that at the beginning of her acquaintance with Prince Letizia she would have “tested” Felipe’s feelings for her by traveling often, like when he flew to Santo Domingo in 2002 to report on the annual Ibero-American summit. Weeks later, she traveled to Costa Rica as a “strategy” to secure the future king of Spain. “It was a strategy, because that absence was a real torment for the very much in love Felipe, who conceived distance as the worst of evils, coming to understand [il poeta spagnolo] Lope de Vega when he said that ‘the beginning of absence is like the end of life'”.

Letizia and Felipe on their wedding day, May 22, 2004.

Once the strength of Felipe’s “total love” for her was ascertained, Letizia would return to Spain “overbearing and manipulative”, making the then heir to the throne promise full confidentiality about their love story and her alleged infidelities with Jaime del Burgo, just as it already happened with Juan Carlos and Sofia. Later in the book, the author claims that Felipe and Letizia still live separate lives and “only keep up appearances in public”, and that even Letizia asked her lover to see him the evening before the royal wedding in the exclusive El Latigazo restaurant in Madrid to make him a special request. As Jamie tells the reporter, “when we met, she took my hand and asked me why I had never asked her to marry me. Of course I didn’t answer. I encouraged her as best I could. The last thing that made me said before saying goodbye in that restaurant was a request: ‘Never leave me'”. The man, who claims to have had a romantic relationship even after Letizia’s marriage in 2004 and until 2011, before marrying her sister Telma (whom he divorced in 2014), claims to have kept “photographs, videos, telephones cell phones” and text messages as evidence of that dangerous liaison. A time bomb ready to explode in the Madrid court, just 20 years after their fateful meeting before Letizia’s wedding.
