Fermo sui Libri returns, to illuminate the Fermo summer with critical sense and literary passion. Now in its ninth edition, this year the event proposes to investigate the theme of the ‘Exempla’, understood, already as in the ancient medieval tradition, as edifying stories that aim at both teaching and entertainment. “Considering that we are at the beginning of the third millennium, the aim is to raise questions, questions about the models to follow, the civil virtues to cultivate, the shared ideals that create that sense of community that has been lost” , explains the organizer of the event, Oriana Salvucci. Serena Dandini, Giordano Bruno Guerri, Luca Sommi, Barbara Alberti, Aldo Cazzullo, Vera Gheno, Maurizio Ferraris, Donatella di Cesare will alternate. Due to a last minute accident, the latter will perhaps be replaced with a name of equal importance. The opening is entrusted to Serena Dandini, Friday 14 June, at 9.15pm in Piazza del Popolo who will bring to Fermo an exciting dialogue entitled ‘The Revenge of the Muses’ from her latest literary work where women finally go from being objects of history to becoming agents of own destiny. This will be followed on 27 June, at 9.15 pm, in Piazzale Azzolino, by the lectio magistralis of the historian, essayist and journalist Giordano Bruno Guerri with his History of the World where the essayist identifies the decisive turning points and traces a path that captures the events, actions and thoughts of those who preceded us. On 3 July we talk about our Constitution with the journalist Luca Sommi and his latest essay entitled ‘The most beautiful: why defend the Constitution’, in Piazzale Azzolino at 9.15pm. Barbara Alberti will be the protagonist of July 5th, at 9.15pm, Piazzale Azzolino, with a speech that seems like a battle cry: ‘Tremble, Tremble, The witches are back’. From literature to history and to our common origins in the Roman Empire, the infinite empire, with the journalist, commentator, historian, Aldo Cazzullo and his lectio entitled ‘When we were the masters of the world’, on 7 July, Piazzale Azzolino, 6pm. From history to linguistics and how the latter gives existence to our very existence, with the linguist, activist and essayist Vera Gheno, on 9 July, at 9.15pm, in Piazzale Azzolino. The seventh appointment is on July 28, at the Church of San Filippo, at 9.15 pm, with the Italian philosopher and academic Maurizio Ferraris, student of Gianni Vattimo and Jacques Derrida, who will testify how ‘Imbecility is a serious thing’. The councilor for culture Micol Lanzidei speaks of an exhibition that is a flagship of the Fermo summer: “A space dedicated to books to which our Spezioli Library also dedicates a great deal of effort, which also organizes important initiatives during the summer such as the appointments on Friday, those of the children’s library on Wednesday which will collaborate with the Shakespeare in the park exhibition with 5 workshops to learn about the theater and the English playwright”. The director of the library, Maria Chiara Leonori, explains: “On Thursdays, in the evenings of the market, there will be space for workshops to create small cartoons on medieval themes which will act as a link with the theme at the center of the exhibition”.
