Books at the Museum: events not to be missed

ROME – The review “Books at the Museum”an initiative promoted by Roma Capitale, Department of Culture, Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, returns with two unmissable events on June 13th and 16th in the Tenerani Hall of the Museum of Rome at Palazzo Braschi (San Pantaleo Square, 10).

The first event will be held Thursday 13 June at 5pm. The volume will be presented “Agostino Tofanelli artist and director of the Capitoline Museums during the Restoration” Of Vanda Lisanti. The author will participate, Ilaria Miarelli Mariani (Director of the Civic Museums Directorate of the Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural Heritage), Francesco Paolo Arata (formerly Curator Archaeologist of the Capitoline Museums) e Chiara Piva (Sapienza University of Rome).

Agostino Tofanelli (1768-1834), less known than his neoclassical painter brother Stefano, played a significant role as director of the Capitoline Museum between the Napoleonic age and the Restoration. This volume explores his career and his contribution to the management and public enjoyment of Roman museums during this historical period, focusing on figures such as Tofanelli who shaped the post-Napoleonic museum panorama.

“Storm. The life (and not the death) of Giacomo Matteotti” by Antonio Funiciello

The second appointment is scheduled for Sunday 16 June at 4.00 pm, always in the Tenerani Hall of the Museum of Rome. The volume will be presented “Storm. The life (and not the death) of Giacomo Matteotti” Of Antonio Funiciello. They will intervene Ilaria Miarelli Mariani, Miguel Gotor (Councillor for Culture of Rome Capital) e Andrea Alemanni (Capitol Councilor). The author will be present.

On the occasion of centenary of the assassination of Giacomo Matteotti, Antonio Funiciello offers a new perspective on the life of the Italian politician and trade unionist. The book focuses not only on Matteotti’s tragic death, but also on his life, his ideals and his contribution to Italian politics, painting a complex and vital portrait of a central figure of socialist reformism.
