Books for children, Isabel Allende is the new queen

If anyone had any doubts, they were quickly proven wrong. At his entry into the ranking of best-selling books for children, with a beautiful story inspired by his dog Perla, it is Isabel Allende the new queen of readings for very young people. We, after all, have never had any doubts. So much so that just a couple of weeks ago, on the occasion of the imminent arrival of this book on the Italian market, we dedicated a long interview to the Chilean writer on the pages of Robinson. In which she confided in us how this book was born – some episodes that she takes up in the book actually happened to her while she was at the park with her dog – where the ability to grasp the magic that is within us has a place special.

Children’s books, Isabel Allende: “Magic is within us”

Ultimately, the magical realism it has been a recurring element of his novels since The house of the spirits which in 1982 brought her to international attention, making her one of the most loved writers in the world: each of her books, and the last The wind knows my name (published like the others by Feltrinelli) is no exception, as soon as it was released it immediately entered the charts.

Magical realism which we also find in his children’s books, starting with the trilogy for teenagers he began with The city of Beasts (and then continued with The Kingdom of the Golden Dragon And The pygmy forest, gathered by Feltrinelli in The adventures of Eagle and Jaguar) written in the early 2000s for his three grandchildren. In fact, it was with them, to whom she always told many stories every day, as had already happened with her children Paula and Nico, that she practiced!

Because «to write for children you have to be with children» she reiterated. And we couldn’t agree more.

If Isabel Allende is therefore the only new entry of the week, they remain on the podium JK Rowling with the first Harry Potter and the social father-son duo Salvo & Giorgia landed in the bookstore with My dad has shrunk! of which we had already said everything, or just enough, last week.

We would like to spend the last words on that Puss in Boots Of Charles Perrault, now offered in a super cheap version (for just one euro) by San Paolo editions, which although in ninth position shines a light on a great truth. That, even in a world dominated by social media, classic fairy tales never go out of fashion. And fortunately, we would add.
