Illustrated books for young patients. The gift in memory of Ilenia Saccani

A precious gift for the children hospitalized in the pediatrics department of the Reggio hospital. A gift in memory of Dr. Ilenia Saccani, a much loved pediatrician, who died at the beginning of 2022 from an illness, at just 40 years of age. Doctor Saccani lived in Castelnovo Sotto. Her family wanted to remember her with a gift to the department where she had worked for a long time, appreciated for her human qualities, sensitivity and love for her little patients. These are illustrated books, with each volume equipped with a sticker with a symbol and some lines that illustrate the project: “A palm from the sky is a gesture of love towards children born in memory of my beloved sister Ilenia Saccani”. “An illness – says her sister Francesca – took her away at the height of her life and her professional activity. She left a great sense of humanity and simplicity in all of us who loved her”.

The sticker represents the handprints of Ilenia’s three grandchildren: the beloved Laura and Oscar and little Annaluna whom she never met. The ‘Un palmo dal cielo’ project consists of donating books for children of all age groups to places that had a meaning in Ilenia’s life: in part the books were destined for the pediatric departments of the Modena Polyclinic and the Santa Maria Nuova of Reggio, where the doctor had worked during the years of the specialty and subsequently worked. Another part of the volumes is found in the municipal library of Novellara, where Dr. Saccani practiced as a pediatrician in recent years, as well as in the library of Castelnovo Sotto, where she had lived. The choice of these books was born from the desire to give a smile to the children that Ilenia loved.
